01/19/2010 Valley Video to launch new HD/DVR services

Valley Telecommunications General Manager/CEO, John Tormoehlen, is pleased to announce that the Board of Directors of Valley Telecommunications has approved the purchase of the necessary equipment in order to provide High Definition Television (HDTV) and Digital Video Recording (DVR) services for its members.

High Definition Television (HDTV) is widely known to provide a better quality television picture as opposed to the current standard definition picture that has been the industry standard for many years. Valley is planning to offer a separate high-definition package, ala carte, which will include between 26 and 45 channels.

A high definition television set will be required in order to receive the new HD channels. (Not to be confused with the DTV Transition from mid-2009, in which HDTVs were not necessary.) Manager Tormoehlen anticipates that the HDTV services will be available by the end of the first quarter of 2010.

In addition to the new HDTV services, Valley will also be launching Digital Video Recording (DVR). DVR services, also known as a Personal Video Recorder (PVR), will allow Valley Video subscribers to record, pause, and rewind programs currently available on the Valley Video system. DVR service provides functions similar to those of VCRs, which many people have used for years. DVRs are more flexible than VCRs, and allow users to record many hours of video programming without the length restrictions of VCR tapes. In addition, DVR picture quality is considerably superior to that of VCR recordings.

Finalized pricing for the new products will be available in February. Specialized equipment, including advanced set top boxes (STBs) and modems will be required for those customers wanting to subscribe to the new services.

Additional information regarding the launch of these exciting new services will be provided via Valleys monthly newsletter, as well as Valley Video Local Channel 2, and via the corporate website at www.valleytel.net.
