Sauerkraut Surprise Cake

Cake:
¼ pound butter or margarine
1½ cups sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt
½ cup cocoa
1 cup water
8 oz. canned sauerkraut, drained, rinsed, chopped

Frosting:
6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
4 Tbsp butter or margarine
½ cup sour cream
1 tsp vanilla
¼ tsp salt
1 pound powdered sugar

In large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add vanilla.
Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa.
Add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beating after each addition. Stir in sauerkraut.
Pour batter into greased 9 X 13 inch pan.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven 35 to 40 minutes.

In top of double boiler, melt chocolate chips and butter. Remove from heat.
Blend in sour cream, vanilla, and salt.
Beating constantly, gradually add sugar until frosting reaches spreading consistency.
Frost top of cooled cake.
