Making the Best Burger and Burger Topping Ideas

When making your hamburgers, use 80% lean hamburger, which will provide the juiciest burgers.
For 4 hamburgers, use 1¼ pound of hamburger, dividing it into 4 equal balls and flatten them to ¾ inch thick, taking care not to over handle them. Burgers will shrink as they cook, so make patties 1 inch larger than the bun you are using.
Use your thumb to place an indent in the center of the burger to prevent swelling in the center.
Season with salt and pepper on one side, place that side on the grill, cooking for 4 – 5 minutes.
Season top side of burger before flipping and cook another 4 – 5 minutes on opposite side for medium. Do not press or flatten while cooking.
Don’t feel you have to stick to the same old toppings of catsup, mustard, onions, and pickles. Use your imagination for some optional toppings: Cheese – mozzarella, Monterey Jack, Swiss, bleu; marinara sauce, grilled mushrooms, raw or fried onions (any kind), salsa, jalapenos, barbeque sauce, avocado, bacon, sour cream, guacamole, horseradish, roasted red peppers, honey mustard
