Madison County Potatoes

6 medium-sized potatoes, thinly sliced
1½ tsp. salt
4 Tbsp. flour
Onion and garlic powder
3 Tbsp. butter
½ medium-sized onion
1 cup diced ham or bacon
½ cup cheddar cheese
Milk

Put 1/3 of potato slices in a greased 2 quart casserole. Sprinkle with 1/3 of onions and 1/3 of blended flour, salt, and pepper, and a dash of both garlic and onion powder. Over this, add 1/3 diced ham/bacon and shredded cheese. Dot with 1 tsp. butter here and there. Repeat layers two more times, ending with butter. Pour milk over potatoes until you see it rise. Cover casserole. Bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Remove cover. Dot with butter and cheese. Bake until golden (a few minutes). Remove from oven and let stand 5 minutes before serving.
