French Bread (Baguette)

2¼ cups bread flour
1 tsp. salt
1 ½ tsp. sugar
1½ tsp. butter or margarine
¾ cup water
1 tsp. dry yeast

If you are not using a bread machine, combine yeast with water and sugar and allow to sit about five minutes. Combine the bread flour and salt. Combine all ingredients. Knead until soft and elastic.
Divide dough into 2 balls and place in a greased bowl and allow to rest for about 20 minutes.
Roll each ball into a rectangle using a rolling pin. Starting at one short edge, roll the dough up tightly into a thin log, pinching edges to seal. Taper and round the ends.
Place on a greased baking pan. Spray water on top and let rise about 60 minutes. Brush with butter and make 3 or 4 diagonal cuts about ¼ inch deep across the top. Bake in 375 oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.
