Cabbage Bun

Recipe Courtesy of Christie Aldrich/Tess Fjeldheim

1 head of cabbage, diced
4-5 carrots, shredded
1 large onion, diced
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 lb. sausage (turkey sausage is what they use)
2 cups shredded cheese, of your choice

Put the cabbage, carrots and onion in a large sauce pan and cook on low heat until cabbage is tender.

In separate frying pan brown the hamburger and sausage and drain the excess fat.

Combine cabbage mixture (after cooked) and meat mixture.
Add the shredded cheese and salt and pepper to bring out the flavors.

Roll out dough and cut into 4-5 inch squares.
Put a generous scoop of the mixture in the center of the dough square.
Pull corners up and over.
Pinch to seal dough around filling. Turn edge side to underneath.

Place on a greased cookie sheet. Spray with olive oil spray. Let rise.

Preheat oven 350 degrees.

Bake 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Remember that the inner mixture is fully cooked, so you don’t have to worry about the center “getting done”. You just have to cook long enough to cook the outer dough.

***You can put whatever you’d like in them. They are wonderful with ham, broccoli, pepperoni, peppers, turkey, chicken, or whatever you have on hand.***

***Can use frozen bread dough and let it thaw or use a homemade dinner roll recipe.***
