Apple Core Dumplings

Crust:
2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
¾ cup Crisco shortening
½ cup milk

Mix in same method as a pie crust. Roll ¼ inch thick and cut in 5 inch squares.

Peel and core 6 baking apples
Place in square of crust. Generously sprinkle with:
½ cup sugar
¼ tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
¼ cup butter divided among 6 apples

Syrup:
Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes:
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup light brown sugar
2 cups water
½ cup butter
1 tsp. cinnamon

Pour over dumplings. Bake for 35 – 40 minutes at 375.
