FCC Consumer Advisory

The FCC is warning consumers about a long distance phone scam that causes some consumers to inadvertently incure high charges on their phone bills. The scam works like this: Consumers receive a message telling them to call a phone number with an 809, 284 or 876 area code in order to collect a prize, find out information about a sick relative, etc.

The caller assumes the number is a typical three-digit U.S. area code; however, the caller is actually connected to a phone number outside the U.S. which is usually associated with an international pay-per-call service. In the past the scam was usually associated with land line phones, but it is now affecting wireless consumers too.

Mark your calendars for Valley Telecommunications 54th Annual Meeting

Plans are underway for Valleys 54th Annual Member Meeting. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 7th. We will provide Herreid road construction updates as they become available so that our most important guests (YOU!) are not inconvenienced.

We have a very special evening planned beginning with our FREE Appreciation Meal served by Occasions by Mary from 5pm to 7pm at the Herreid Community Center. Valley members will be treated to Knoepfla, Sauerkraut, Sausage, Kuchen, Kool-Aid, and Coffee.

Member Registration also begins at 5pm at the Herreid School Gymnasium and will continue until the start of the business meeting. Each registered member will receive a FREE gift from Valley. Members will be entertained by The Statler Brother Wannabes of Eureka, SD.

The Annual Meeting will be called to order at 7pm by Board President Dean Wessel. President Wessel, General Manager/CEO John Tormoehlen, Attorney Darla Rogers, and Marketing Coordinator Kaye VanderVorst will present valuable information to the membership. The evening will conclude with door prize drawings and one lucky attendee will take home $250 in Cold, Hard Cash!

We look forward to seeing you in Herreid on October 7th!
