Engineers Working To Avoid Cable Service Disruption From Runaway Satellite
HERREID, SD 05/19/10 – Valley Communications wants local cable customers to be aware a satellite drifting out of its orbit could cause interruption of cable TV channels locally and across all of North America, Canada and Mexico from May 23 through June 7.
A solar storm knocked the satellite, called Galaxy 15, out of orbit. Around May 23 it will cross the path of another satellite named AMC 11, which broadcasts numerous cable channels. The company owning AMC 11 has emergency plans in place, including rerouting its satellite and transferring channels to another satellite, that should prevent any major disruptions.
