Valley Video Rate Increase Unavoidable

Effective July 1, 2010, Valley Video subscribers will experience their first rate increase in over two years. Both Basic and Expanded Basic subscribers will see a minimal increase of $3.99 per package, per month. New Fiber-To-The-Farm customers will continue to receive the current rate through the term of their one year service commitment.

Over the past several years, we have completed several studies to determine the trend of the channel providers. Unfortunately, the trend appears to include channel rate increases over the next several years. We will continue to examine our costs to keep our rates as low as we possibly can.

Valley Video is fortunate to be a participant in the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC). As a result, we are able to receive additional discounts on channels that we have selected, based on the total subscribers of the NCTC. While these additional volume discounts assist in keeping our channel expenses to a minimum, several vendors have continued to raise even the discounted rates.

We have fielded several questions from subscribers as to why we have chosen to carry a particular channel. Many of the vendors include must-carry requirements in their contract verbiage. As a result, we are required to carry some channels in order to provide another more popular channel. These must-carry requirements allow channel vendors to market their more unpopular channels to a larger audience – which of course, comes at an additional cost.

We appreciate your commitment to the Cooperative and look forward to providing you with the best video television service available for years to come.
