If you must travel, the SD Dept of Transportation and Public Safety recommend travelers also take the following steps.

  • Wear your seatbelt.
  • Travel during the day.
  • Drive with your headlights on (not daytime running lights) so you can be seen by other motorists from the front and rear.
  • Use highly traveled roads and highways.
  • Keep family and friends informed of your travel schedule and route.
  • Call 511 or visit safetravelusa.com for road conditions.
  • Keep a winter weather survival kit in your car. The kit should include blankets, warm clothing, water, energy bars, a flashlight, a distress flag, a shovel and matches.
  • Travel with a charged cell phone, but don’t rely on it to get you out of a bad situation.
  • Change travel plans as weather conditions warrant.

01/02/2014 – Phone Scam ALERT!

If The Caller ID Shows A Number From This Area Code, Think Twice About Answering It

While some might consider screening calls based on phone numbers rude, in this case, it could save your phone bill.

Authorities are warning people to avoid picking up a call from a 473 area code number. The area code is international for Grenada. The offending number has been reported at 473-520-9734 from someone who seems to be in distress. Those who call the number back are charged each minute they’re on the line. Costs can add up in the thousands of dollars.

This scam isn’t new, but it seems to be surging again. Authorities have suggested that if you don’t recognize a caller, either let the number ring and DO NOT ANSWER or let the call go to voicemail and DO NOT RETURN THE CALL.

01/02/2014 – Channels Discontinued

Effective today, SoapNet (Channel 55) and Bloomberg TV (Channel 144)  – both in the Expanded Package will no longer be available. Please see the explanations below as they were originally printed:

June/July 2012 Newsletter – SoapNet to be Discontinued; Replaced by Disney Junior

Valley Video has received notice from Disney/ABC Television, that after a ten year run, SoapNet will be phased out over the next several months. Ultimately, the vendor has advised that poor viewership has led to this decision. However, as long as SoapNet is up and running, most of its schedule will continue unchanged. In the future, ABC Family is expected to take over the programming, so some programming changes may take place at that time. Disney/ABC Television has announced that Disney Junior will replace SoapNet in most US markets, including Valley’s service area.

December 2013 Newsletter – Bloomberg Television

Effective on, or around, December 10th, Bloomberg Television will no longer be available on Valley Video. As of presstime, Valley’s provider has attempted to reach a reasonable contract with Bloomberg, however, Bloomberg has requested that all providers cease coverage prior to December 14, 2013. Bloomberg Television is also available free via the web, and we do not feel that our customers should be subject to additional fees for content that is distributed elsewhere for free. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding in this matter.
