  • Category: Bread, Cheese
  • Original Air Date: August 21, 2019

Ingredients

2½ tsp. poppy seeds, divided
2 tubes (11 oz. each) refrigerated French bread
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
¾ cup sliced green onions
6 Tbsp. butter, melted

Instructions

Sprinkle ½ teaspoons poppy seeds in a greased 10 inch fluted tube pan. Cut the dough into forty 1 inch pieces; place half in prepared pan. Sprinkle with half of the cheese and onions. Top with 1 teaspoon poppy seeds; drizzle with half of the butter. Repeat layers.

Bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately invert onto a wire rack. Serve warm.

NOTE: If you can’t find the French bread in a tube, you can use your own bread recipe or use frozen bread dough. The following is the French bread recipe I use.

French Bread

Ingredients

2 cups warm water
1 Tbsp. active dry yeast
2 ½ tsp. sugar
5 to 6 cups flour
2½ tsp. table salt or fine sea salt
1 tsp. olive oil

Instructions

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes or until it has begun to foam.  Place 2 cups of flour into a large mixing bowl with the salt. Stir in the yeast mixture and begin to knead by hand or use a dough hook and stand mixer. Add ½ cup of the remaining flour at a time until the dough is smooth but not sticky. Rob the olive oil around the dough ball and let rest for 15 minutes.
